Spring Destinations
Spring has officially sprung. The question is, what are we going to do with the newfound sunlight, the blossoming flowers and the fresh breezes that now surround us? Well, go out and see them of course.
Spring is an ideal time to explore the world for a number of reasons. Between the mild weather, the shoulder season pricing and lack of crowds (usually spring is not as popular as summer for travel if only because of our school system’s summer break), and the many cultural springtime festivals, this season is an underrated time to travel.
We decided to create a list of some of our favorite spring getaways. These are spots that might be beautiful any time of the year, but will be especially special in springtime.
Tulip Festival, The Netherlands
When: Mid April
One of the most famous flower festivals on the planet, the Tulip Festival in the Netherlands is an unforgettable springtime celebration. Wander through fields of flowers and enjoy the stunning scenery and fresh scents. Besides seeing millions of tulips in bloom, enjoy gorgeous views of Dutch landscapes that are augmented by the colorful blossoming of the flowers. The Tulip festival is a celebration of Dutch culture, so beyond the flowers definitely partake in the traditional dances, music and food of the Netherlands.Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii
Looking for a little Island Lifestyle? Spring is a perfect time to visit this beachy paradise. With weather in the mid-80s this is a perfect time to Whether you’re there looking to spot whales (Spring is the ideal time for this), attend a festival like the Lei Day Celebration, or just enjoy the islands in a less busy time then their overcrowded summer season – springtime in Honolulu is a great choice.Asheville, North Carolina
With mild weather and outstanding nature, springtime is an excellent season to visit this outdoorsy destination. We highly recommend a ride through the Blue Ridge Parkway which offers incredible views of the mountains, waterfalls and wildlife of North Carolina. The Biltmore Estate’s gardens are also a must visit during spring, with a host of blossoming flowers and plants.Costa Rica
Costa Rica’s dry season is an excellent time to explore the nation’s beautiful beaches, lush rainforests and other natural attractions without getting too drenched. This is also a great time to spot wildlife, the native animals of Costa Rica tend to be most visible in the spring as they search for water sources. The spring season also coincides with the sea turtle nesting season, giving visitors a unique opportunity to witness the incredible sight of turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs. And of course, for those of you surfers out there, the dry season will provide some of the best conditions for catching waves.Cherry Blossom Festival, Japan
When: Late March—Mid May
The Cherry Blossom Festival in Japan may be our second flower celebration on the list, but, can you blame us? Spring is the perfect season to see some fresh petals! The streets are lined with pink and white cherry blossom trees, and the entire country comes alive with a festive atmosphere. But of course it's not just about the flowers; the festival also offers a chance to experience traditional Japanese culture, with events such as parades, concerts, and food fairs. Savor some sakura mochi, cherry blossom cookies and Chirashi Sushi as you explore whichever Japanese city you decide to visit.São Paulo, Brazil
South America’s fall is an ideal time to visit this Brazilian metropolis. One of the top reasons to visit São Paulo in spring is to witness the beautiful jacaranda trees in bloom. These trees, which line many of the city's streets, burst into vibrant shades of purple and lavender during springtime, creating a stunning and romantic atmosphere (yep, more flowers). Spring is also a great time to explore São Paulo's thriving cultural scene. The city is home to many world-class museums, art galleries, theaters, and music venues, and during spring, many of these institutions hold special events and exhibitions. The São Paulo Museum of Art and the Museum of the Portuguese Language are two must-visit destinations for art and culture lovers.
Nepal
When: May, Full Moon Day OR March, Holi Festival
The full moon day of May is celebrated as Buddha's Birthday amongst the Nepalese! Known also as Buddha Jayanti, this holiday is celebrated with great fanfare in the capital city of Kathmandu, where a large procession of monks, nuns, and laypeople march through the streets to pay homage to the Buddha. The festival is also marked by the display of prayer flags and the lighting of butter lamps, symbolizing the Buddha's enlightenment and the victory of light over darkness. Alternatively, the Holi festival, also known as the festival of colors, is celebrated in March and is a vibrant and joyous occasion, with people throwing colored powder and water at each other.Sydney, Australia
Australia’s fall (the Northern Hemisphere’s spring) is an ideal time to visit the sub-continent’s largest city. The weather will be mild and the crowds less intensive than during the hottest summer months.
